Cazenovia defeats the Mighty Oaks

Coming off their first game after winter break, the Mighty Oaks weren't able to withstand a well-balanced attack from Cazenovia College as they fell 83-60 Jan. 9 at Cazenovia's Competition Gymnasium.

The Wildcats nailed five straight three-pointers within the first five minutes of the game, jumping out to a 19-point lead with 14 minutes left in the first half at 22-3.  The Mighty Oaks finally awoke with a key outside shooting from juniors Jared Bard and Ryan Caldwell as the Oaks quickly got back into the game at 30-22, trailing by only 8 with under 8 minutes to play.  Cazenovia continued to chip away with their defensive pressure in the half court as they ended the half on a 12-4 run to lead 42-26 at the break.

The Wildcats came out sharp to start the second half as the Oaks struggled to finish from the field, shooting just 27% on the game as ESF fell 83-60. Junior Ryan Caldwell finished with 16 points and 10 rebounds and Junior Jared Bard finished with 12 points respectively and Senior Sage Beemer entered the yet young record books for ESF basketball as its all-time career scorer.

The Mighty Oaks will be back in action at home (Institute of Technology) Saturday, Jan. 16, facing USCAA rival Alfred State with a 1:30pm tip.
