On the soccer pitch, the men's soccer team opened the 2018 season with a 4-1 win over local rival Cazenovia College. Adam Scalisi couldn't have asked for a better start in his first collegiate game as head coach with the Mighty Oaks - junior Cooper Weinman put ESF up 1-nil only a minute into the game. The Mighty Oaks added to the lead with goals by sophomore Daniel Pelletier (20th minute) and freshman Jack Phillips (24th minute) to put ESF up 3-0. The Wildcats responded with a goal off a penalty kick at the 27th minute. ESF junior forward Luke Day added to the score with a goal at the 35th minute, ending the action-packed first half with a 4-1 lead for ESF.
The Mighty Oaks played conservatively in the second half, keeping the Wildcats from scoring again and maintaining their three-goal lead to win the game 4-1.
ESF is 1-0 overall while Cazenovia is 0-1. The Mighty Oaks men's and women's soccer teams face cross-town rival Onondaga Community College Sept. 7 in the annual King and Queen of the Hill Cup.
