Mighty Oaks Go 2-0 in NYC

The Mighty Oaks men's soccer team went 2-0 on its New York City road trip. The team, coming off a tough 1-0 loss vs Onondaga Community College, faced Vaughn College in its first Hudson Valley Iintercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) game of the season. The first half saw no goals. Freshman Jack Phillips scored at the 56th minute in the second half to give ESF a 1-0 lead and the win. Sophomore goalkeeper Carmine Tronolone made nine saves in the shutout win. The following day, the Mighty Oaks played The King's College in another HVIAC conference match. The Lions came into the match with a unblemished 4-0 record. Senior forward George Beinetti got ESF on the board early with a rebound goal at the 13th minute. Freshman Jack Phillips followed up with another goal at the 39th minute to give ESF a 2-0 lead at the half. ESF scored two more goals in the second half (Copper Weinman, 72nd minute and Harrison Cox, 88th minute) to come away with a 4-0 win. Tronolone made eight saves in the game, and had a total of 17 in two shutouts.

With the win, ESF improves to 3-1 overall, 2-0 in HVIAC conference play. The men face Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences Sept. 21.
