Women's Woodsmen Team Finish First at Finger Lakes Community College Meet

The ESF woodsmen team travelled to Finger Lakes Community College on Oct. 3 to compete in its first competition of the season. ESF brought three teams; a women's A, men's A and a Jack and Jill team. Each team did exceptionally well at the meet that featured eight different schools.

The Women's A team took home first place.  A young team with only one returning member from last year's squad, the ladies were able to take advantage of their skills both as individuals and teammates. Racheal Smith (axe throw), Sonja Wixom (triathlon), and Erin Stoddard (pole climb) all took first place in their individual events. The team also won two out of three doubles events and took the top spot in crosscut and canoe (team events).

The Men's A team placed in fourth place overall, but not many points separated them from the first place team. Jake Murphy took first place in the axe throw and the doubles fire build team (Francis McParland and Ben Robinson) also placed first.

The Jack and Jill team placed third overall. Ben Peak placed first in singlebuck (individual), Adam Wilckens also placed first in the triathlon. Together the team won canoeing competition.

The woodsmen team's next competition is at Paul Smith's College Oct. 17.
