Woodsmen Compete at Northeast Conclave

The ESF Woodsmen's team participated in the 70th Annual Northeast Woodsmen's Conclave at Alfred State April 22 and 23.

The annual event featured approximately 300 competitors from 40 teams and 16 schools.

The ESF women's squad finished in third place overall while the men's team finished in fourth place. The ESF Jack-and-Jill team finished seventh.

A notable finish for the women was the quarter-split team of Michelle Vasiloff, Racheal Smith and Julia Lampman, who placed first. Vasiloff, Smith, Lampman and Erin Stoddard also placed first in canoeing events.

The men's team had first-place finshes from the crosscut-to-hell team of Jake Murphy and Travis Petit, and the fire-build team of Andrew Copenhagen and Patrick Harrison.

The weekend event was capped off by the exciting Stihl Collegiate Challenge that features the top male and female competitors from each school. The winner of the challenge earns an automatic qualification to the STIHL National Competition to be held in Chicago in June. Ethan Hall represented the men's team while Sarah Murphy represented the women's squad. Neither qualified but both performed well for ESF.

The Woodsmen ended another succesful spring season and will be back in action in the fall. Any student interested in participating in the Woodsmen's team should contact Coach Kelley Corbine (kacorbin@syr.edu).
