The Mighty Oaks track teams ended the 2018 spring season on a high note at the competitive Big Red Invitational at Cornell University.

Senior sprinter Shannon Gordinier ended her illustrious career at ESF with a fourth-place finish in the women's 100-meter dash with a blazing fast time of 12.63. Gordinier finished ahead of several Division I, II and III runners, and some competitive track club athletes. The previous week, Gordinier placed first in both the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes at the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) Invitational.

Gordinier has set several school records in the 60-, 100- and 200-meter dash events during her four-year career. In 2017, she set the course record (12.33) in the 100-meter dash at the Roc City Classic. In addition to her success on the track, Gordinier was a USCAA Soccer All-American and Academic All-American.

On the men's side, freshman Howard "Buck" Haines finished 13th out of 22 runners with a time of 2:03 in the 800-meter race. Junior Ben Wasserman finished in the middle of the pack (ninth - 16:35) out of 15 runners in the men's 5,000-meter run.

The men's team dominated the HVIAC Invite the previous week, finishing first place overall and garnering first-place finishes in three individual events.

"Overall, the team should be very proud of what they did this outdoor season. Despite all of the bad weather and multiple meet cancelations, we accomplished eight outdoor school records and we won the first annual HVIAC league meet title for men and women," said Head Coach Mike Melfi.
