Cross Country Teams Finish Strong at Yellowjacket Invitational

The Mighty Oaks cross country teams traveled to the University of Rochester for the Yellowjacket Invitational, which featured some of the top Division III cross-country programs in the Northeast.

The women's squad finished sixth overall, improving from last year's ninth-place finish and placing ahead of several other competitive SUNY schools, including Buffalo State, Cortland, Fredonia and Oswego. Sophomore Julie Romano was the top finisher for the Mighty Oaks, finishing 30th overall with a time of 24:45 in the 5K race. This was Romano's first, first-place team finish for ESF. Senior Marissa Lathrop placed 40th overall with a time of 25:08. Sophomore Erin Cocca finished in 43rd place with a time of 25:15. The race featured 15 schools and 212 runners.

In the men's 8K race, Mark McClenahan's 69th-place finish helped ESF to a tenth-place overall finish. McClenahan's time was 28:43. Senior Ethan Appelgren placed 73rd overall with a time of 28:51 while senior Ben Wasserman finished 104 out 215 runners.

The Mighty Oaks will be back in action Sept. 29 at the SUNY Geneseo "Mike Woods" Invitational.
