Huskies Back in Action

Pottersville, NY - - The Word of Life Huskies have come back from the Christmas break looking to turn things around. The Huskies first traveled out to Western New York on Saturday, January 13 at Villa Maria College to open HVIAC play. While the Huskies fell to the Vikings 97-60, we saw an encouraging performance from Freshman Branden Dugger who scored 17 points and grabbed 5 rebounds.

The Huskies then drove over to Syracuse the following day to play another HVIAC opponent in SUNY ESF. The Mighty Oaks would dominate the 2nd half and take a 94-79 win against Word of Life. The Huskies got good production from Branden Dugger with 21 points. Travis Shearin had 19 points, 8 assists, & 10 rebounds to record a double-double. Joseph Mathews scored 13 points and 12 rebounds in the loss at SUNY ESF.

On Wednesday, January 17, the Huskies traveled up north to play Clinton Community College in a non-conference matchup. The game went back and forth the whole night and the game ended up going to Overtime after the Cougars tied the game at 71-71 in the final seconds of regulation. Lackey led the scoring with 26 points and Shearin scored 18 with 13 rebounds. Mathews also added 21 points going 7/9 at the free-throw line. But it would not be enough as the Huskies dropped with a loss 82-77 in OT.

The Huskies most recently went on another weekend trip with a game at Five Towns College on Long Island on Saturday (20th) and played at Culinary Institute of America (CIA) in Hyde Park, NY on the 21st. The Game at Five Towns was back and forth early, but the Sound took the game away in the 2nd half as the Huskies were unable to get into a rhythm as the Five Towns Sound took the W 84-61. Lackey added another 25 points as he continued his hot streak in scoring. The Huskies on Sunday went and cooked up CIA with an 80-43 victory with much of the bench playing. Luke Augusta led the way with 14 points, followed by Quentin Lackey with 11 points in the few minutes of playing time.

The Huskies are now 4-14 (0-3) on the season and look to continue the momentum of their game at CIA into their next game this week. On Wednesday, the Huskies travel to Saranac to face Paul Smith's College Bobcats at 7 pm.
