Men's Soccer 9/9-9/10 Weekend Write Up

The Mighty Oaks made their first appearance at the Penn State Brandywine Classic tournament this weekend in the Philadelphia heat and humidity. The Oaks rolled past Bucks County CC with a 3-1 win. Two goals coming from perennial scorer Ben McPherson. It was an overall team effort centered around high intensity and quick pace of play. The win set up the Oaks for a championship game face off against host school Penn State Brandywine. The Oaks had their work cut out for them playing against recent 2x USCAA National Champions but the first half ended in 0-0 with even play by both teams. A well-informed PK save by senior goalkeeper Gabe Huchro kept the Oak's alive. A small stretch of breakdowns early in the second half allowed Brandywine to net 2 quick goals. The Oaks battled back to hold Brandywine to that final score. Senior Chris Goetz moved from his typical position as center-mid back to center-back during the tournament to support the needs of the team. He had 2 very physical, solid and productive performances and shared his thoughts on the weekend. "On both days the team showed a strong mindset and desire to win. Each game was a different fight and we were adaptable and put forth good effort for each. Despite a disappointing loss to Brandywine, we stayed competitive throughout and had positives to take away." With regard to having to play a different position this tournament: "I was happy to take on the challenge of a different position to serve the team as best I could." The team has a week of training before heading west to Well's College on Friday night.
