The Mighty Oaks Crush 4 More School Records

The Mighty Oaks Crush 4 More School Records

On Friday, April 21st, and Saturday, April 22nd, the Mighty Oak Track teams competed at the 2 days, Cortland Classic. A total of four school records were set.

First-year Ryan Boon broke his own record set the week before in the 110 hurdles. Then, Junior Sean Dristle and Senior Matt Frame both broke the 10k record as Sean Dristle won the race and Frame placed second. Dristle's time of 33:04 was less than 4 seconds ahead of his teammate, Frame.

Dristle now owns 2 outdoor school records and 1 indoor (all set in 2023).

First-year, Hayden Bregg broke one of the longest records on the books in the 400 meter. His time of 52.56 took down an 8-year record set by Nick Giordano who ran 52.81 in 2015.

Finally, the women's 4x800 meter relay consisting of Maura O'Brien, Savannah Kuhr, Marissa Civatte, and Aine Haugh smashed the previous record by about 16 seconds with a time of 10:41.48. Placing first in the race.

The Mighty Oaks travel to American International University in Springfield, Mass on Saturday, April 29 to compete in the USCAA National Invitational.

Coach Melfi's comments:

"We started off on Friday having some van issues and weather issues all weekend, but we all found a way! This team will run through a wall if we asked them to! Breaking 4 school records in 1 weekend is really impressive. Some were long-standing like the 400 meters."

"I knew from the moment I saw Hayden Bregg race (last year at the NEW YORK STATE High School Outdoor Track Championships), he had a shot to get this record immediately. He has raw speed, and is not afraid of doing longer runs."

"I am super proud of the ladies' 4x800 and Dristle's 10k win was no surprise. He's having a great season. First-year Ryan Boon has been a great addition to our team in the hurdles. The team is ready for nationals next weekend!"
