Cross Country sets personal and school records at Roberts Wesleyan

On September 24, the men and women xc teams traveled to Roberts Wesleyan College to participate in the Harry F. Anderson XC Invitational. Both teams had record days. On the women's side, first year Katie Richardson led the Mighty Oaks to an overall 5th place finish out of 14 schools again taking down multiple NCAA Division 2 schools.  Richardson's 5k time of 19:36 is now the 5th fastest all time for ESF. This was also the first time in school history, all 5 scoring runners were under 21 minutes in a 5k. McKenzie Dombroski (20:01), Bryce Hopper (20:05), Savannah Kuhr (20:05), Margaret Ryan (20:12). Of the 11 ladies competing for the Oaks, all had personal best times in the 5k.

On the mens side, Senior Matthew Tripp continued his great season and career placing 8th overall and running the 2nd fastest 8k time in ESF school history (25:43). Tripp now owns the top 2 fastest 8k times in ESF history. In 2019, Tripp posted a 25:33 (8k) time at the Hamilton Invitational.  The men placed 7th overall in a 15 team field also taking down multiple NCAA Division 2 schools. 8k times posted by sophomore Sean Dristle (27:00) and first year Korben Anderson (27:17)  placed them on the all time top 50 ESF 8k times leader board.

Coach Melfi's comments

What we did at this meet is absolutely mind blowing. In no way was this race our peak meet, and the team is very aware of that. But, we ran well out there at Roberts. Our ladies are still very young and inexperienced college runners. 3 out of our 5 scoring ladies are only in their 2nd  or 3rd college xc race ever. To have every single lady run some type of personal best is amazing. Our guys ran really smart. For all the guys, this was their first 8k of the season. We have a very large guys team, and many worked together during the race. We beat some really solid teams. If we can keep it all together for the next 6 weeks or so, we be in a position to get a 2nd consecutive men and women's USCAA National Championship down in Virginia Beach. That's the goal!
