Cross Country Teams Looking to Defend National Titles

After another successful season, the ESF Cross Country teams are getting ready to road trip back down to Virginia next weekend.

The 2022 Cross Country National Championship are being held at Bells Mill Park in Chesapeake, Virginia from November 10-11. And the ESF Men's and Women's teams will be there to defend their 2021 National Championship titles.

Men's and Women's Cross Country Head Coach Mike Melfi says his teams are more ready than ever.

"Our goal from day one of the season was to repeat as national champions. We have worked so hard (which included early morning practices during the week, and on Sunday mornings). It's safe to say this is the most dedicated group we have ever coached. Anything can happen in the races, but I know we will be ready!"

Recent Mighty Oak Spotlight Athletes and team seniors Matthew Tripp and McKenzie Dombroski are excited to defend the teams titles.

"The season has been pretty solid. We have put down some solid PR's as a team. We are good to go for nationals and I'm excited to bring that trophy back where it belongs. We are just gonna send it, Larry Enticer." Said Tripp.

"Our season was a lot of fun with a lot of new talent from freshmen and transfers and we all have been improving as the season has progressed. We're all really excited for nationals and to hopefully take home another national championship!" Said Dombroski.

The women's team will race in the 6K at 10:00am on Friday, November 11th. Shortly after, the men's team will start the 8K race at 11:00am.
