ESF Runners Take on the Big Apple

ESF Runners Take on the Big Apple

On February 10, ESF sent some runners to the Big Apple Invite at the Ocean Breeze Track Complex on Staten Island. This trip embraced Coach Melfi 's vision to make sure ESF runners are getting opportunities to run on banked indoor tracks. "Banked tracks are different than flat track that we have in our area. Our runners need to experience that" said Coach Melfi. Over the past seven years, the track team has traveled to the New Balance track in Boston, the iconic Armory in New York City and Yale's Cox Cage. "As a relatively new indoor track program, (only 11 years old), these are the experiences runners in our program will never forget, not to mention toeing the line against the northeast talent from NCAA Division 1, 2 and 3" Coach Melfi added.

Highlights from the weekend:

-Senior Aubrianna DeLario Brown finished in 37th place out of 60 runners in the 400m with a time of 63.2 (just .2 off her school record)

- Junior Tyler Anderson took down the 1k school record with a time of 2:40.05. Previous record was set by Matthew Tripp in 2022 (2:41.54). Tyler finished 5th in the race and was the 1st non NCAA Division 1 runner.

-Sophomore Hayden Bregg shattered the 400m school record in a time of 51.6. Hayden won his heat and finished 15th out of 57 runners overall.
