Cross Country takes On the Harry Anderson Invite
The Men's and Women's cross country teams competed on Saturday September 23rd at the Harry F. Anderson XC Invite. Roberts Wesleyan University in Rochester, NY hosted the meet.
Both teams finished in 6th place out of 14 schools. The men and women had a combined 15 personal records. The other highlights of the day came out of Senior Sean Dristle who ran 25:45 for (8k). That time puts him as the 2nd fastest (8k) runner in school history, just behind 2023 graduate Matthew Tripp. "For being a young team, we had 9 guys under 30 minutes and I am proud of the way this team has improved. They have a lot of determination. We were without our 4th and 7th runners today and I think we could of inched up a spot or 2 with them in the team ranking" Coach Melfi said. Junior Korben Anderson said, "terrific showing by both of our teams today. Not only have we made improvements from our opener at LeMoyne, but just from last weekend. All of our hard work and training was on display today."
The women's team were led by their top 2 sensational seniors, Bryce Hopper and Savannah Kurh who finished 7th and 9th respectively. Hopper posted a 5k time of 18:52.8 while her teammate Kuhr was just a second behind in 18:53.5. Both join Abby Perez as the only Mighty Oak women to break 19 minutes in an xc 5k. Next in for the Mighty Oaks was first year Tee Atwater (19:56.3) who finished 39th overall. "I am very proud of how the women raced and they are very hungry to get even faster" Coach Melfi stated. Senior Savannah Kuhr said, "I am proud and excited to see everyone's dedication paying off. We have been putting in the hard work and it's showing. Many are seeing consistent improvements in their races and we are putting up solid performances against scholarship schools!"
Next up for the Mighty Oaks will be at the Canisius College Alumni Invitational in Buffalo, New York on Saturday October 14th.
