XC teams Compete Against Top Competition
Each year the men's and women's cross country teams compete at The Harry F. Anderson Invite hosted by Roberts Wesleyan University in Rochester, NY. The flat fast course always attracts schools from multiple states in all NCAA divisions. This year the number of teams almost doubled, and the level of competition also increased. NCAA Division 1 powerhouse Cornell University won the meet for the men and women. "The first mile was a little tight and the entries almost doubled from previous years. I know some of our runners said they sort of got boxed in early. With that said, this was our first 5k/8k of the season and a great experience. We had some runners out due to sickness, injury and academic commitments, but we battled," said Coach Melfi.
Senior captain Korben Anderson led the way for the Mighty Oak men with an 8k time of 27:59 and placing 149th out of 334 runners. The men finished 20th place in the team standings.
Junior Margaret Ryan was the top finisher for the Mighty Oak women placing 87th out of 255 finishers. This was Ryan's first time at the top spot for ESF. The women placed 16th in the team standings.
On Saturday October 19th, the Might Oaks return to action at another very competitive meet, The Mike Woods Invite hosted by SUNY Geneseo.
