Cross Country Season Recap

Cross Country Season Recap

(Recap provided by head coach Mike Melfi)

The men xc team finished national runner up for the 3rd consecutive year. The women were the runner up in the nation. Both teams have not finished below 2nd place in the nation for 3 consecutive years. This is a direct correlation to how hard these teams work.
The indoor track team had many personal records set and even more school records set. The indoor track team traveled to NYC to compete in the history Armory Track Complex. The season was cut short but we feel outdoor track would have been awesome. We were working really hard in between the indoor and outdoor seasons.

Seniors:
This is a group that has giving so much to our program. When I look at this list, I think of dedication, communication and commitment. Many these seniors started with this new coaching staff and you helped shape our program to where we are today… a great mix of being very serious while still having some flexibility. Many college xc/track programs do not have this mix. I am proud to say these men and women helped form our current philosophy. You will be missed!

MVP and MOST IMPROVED for XC
It was an easy decision to choose both Matt Tripp and Abby Perez for what they did this past xc season. 2 freshman come in and place high in every meet we attended while breaking every xc school record. It was remarkable to see and they completely deserve the MVP award.
Most improved goes to Nate Tyler, Tabby Wechter and Alyssa Flint. Nate was determined to make it to nationals and he did exactly that. He improved every meet and was the leader of our very strong depth. Tabby came into preseason in wicked good shape and she was a completely new runner from her previous 2 years. She was consistently in our top 5 and whatever she did to prepare, it was on her, not the coaching staff! Alyssa had a few meets where she pr'd by MINUTES, not seconds in 5k/6k. I think one meet it was like 3-4 minutes. Tripp and junor Mark McClenahan both garnered first-team All-American honors while Seidl was named a second-team All-American. For the women Perez made first-team All-American while Engleson and Cocca earned second-team All-American honors.

MVP and MOST IMPROVED for TRACK
Our MVP's are Alex Henwood  and Cassidy EnglesonAlex gave 110 percent every practice and every meet. He was as serious as they come and it was great to coach him this past year. He improved a ton and gradually realized what events he could excel in. I know our track season got cut short, but I totally believe he was on to great things this spring. Cassidy Engleson PR'd in every indoor meet while following our plans completely. She was also ready for some good meets this outdoor season.

Most Improved goes to Pat EganColin Stockdale, Aine Haugh. Pat, ran an unbelievable mile at his last collegiate race (BROCKPORT). He pr'd by almost 10 seconds and looked amazing. He worked very hard this past year and we could tell! Colin continued to get better in the triple jump and placed high at Utica. He also won the OCC scrimmage last week! Aine got adjusted to college racing but continued to figure it out while coming so close to getting the 800 school record. Aine already put her name in the record book for the 500 and many more are in her future!
